SECURED PERSONAL LOANS

Personal Property Securities Register

PPSR

The Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) is the reason they are called a "secured personal loans".

The PPSR is a New Zealand government database.

The information is specifically about personal property.

It can be used for:

- registering security interest over an item/s

- checking to see if security has already been registered over an item.

This is an electronic register, which means you can access it online.

It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

HOW LONG DOES THE REGISTRATION LAST?

A financing statement is intially valid for 5 years or until the loan is repaid in full.

When you have repaid your loan the finance company should remove the registered security.

However, this does not always happen so if you are applying for a new loan the lender may find an old financing statement.

The contact details of the person who lodged the financing statement will be on the PPSR so it is easy to find them to resolve any inaccuracies.
