ACCOMMODATION

Finding accommodation when traveling is a big part each day.

Not everyone approaches it in the same way.

Some of us like to know all the details before we leave on our travels. Others just see what happens each day, and decide from there.

Whatever your method, being able to find somewhere easily, is really important.

If you are looking for accommodation in New Zealand, Abacus Finance can help with short or long term rentals, and holiday rentals.

Types

Different types of accommodation suit different people and different needs.

BED AND BREAKFAST - generally suited to singles and couples. There is a general expectation of a warm, homely atmosphere with company, a good nights sleep and good food. Dinner is often an option as well as the expected breakfast.

BACKPACKERS - great for the budget traveller not concerned with sharing a room and facilities. Backpacker accommodation is readily available throughout the world, and is a fantastic way to meet others. Well suited to the independent traveller without a definite schedule. You will have to supply your own bedding and towels.

If you are travelling on a budget, and you are a student, it pays to make the most of the many discounts available. All you need is an internationally recognised Student Identification such as ISE Card.

MOTELS - usually a motel room will have a bedroom / lounge room, some basic cooking and food storage facilities, and an adjoining bathroom. They offer privacy and the ability to be a bit self-reliant. Very easy as you do not have to bring any bedding or towels with you.

HOTELS - this is where the luxury or top end of the accommodation market operates. You will get your own room and bathroom, and may have access to a small fridge, but no cooking facilities. A hotel will offer on-site dining, and additional room services such as laundry, food delivery, drinks and computer access. Also a very easy, convenient way to travel.

A really convenient way to find a good hotel at a good rate is to use the internet. You search multiple hotels in the location you want, all at the same time. Generally you put in the dates, number of guests, and the location you want to stay. Rates are very competitive, particularly close to the date you want to stay. A good example is this one which offers Great Vegas Hotels From $29. (If you are planning to go to Vegas have a look at these great deals...Why pay full price when you can get Las Vegas Shows & Dining for Half Price!) You can also use this method when looking for International Hotels.

CAMPGROUNDS - perfect for the tent camper, caravans, campervans and mobile homes (RV's), and those wanting very affordable accommodation. You will have to bring all your own bedding, towels and often cooking equipment too. Good shared kitchen and bathroom facilities are available. Also a great way to meet people.

Options such as caravans and camping are gaining popularity once again as people look for local holiday options, and ways to have a holiday on a budget. If you are interested in learning more about caravans have a look at this really helpful caravan advice site.

SERVICED APARTMENTS - a growing trend, serviced apartments look after the gap in the market between motels and hotels. Often upmarket, and in the city centre, you can be self-sufficient and private with extra services such as laundry thrown in.

HOUSE EXCHANGE - a brilliant way to see the world without paying for a place to stay. If you are able to offer your home to other travellers in exchange for their home (or holiday home)you will experience local life while saving money. The homes have everything you need to be self-sufficient, private and comfortable (just like home!).

TIMESHARES - there are thousands of timeshares worldwide. They are in good holiday locations, and offer very good facilities. If you own a timeshare you can also exchange your location and dates for a time and location that better suits your needs.

PRIVATE HOLIDAY RENTALS - these differ from a House Exchange because you simply book and rent a private holiday home directly from the owner, rather than exchange yours as payment. You get to enjoy a beautiful holiday location with all the comforts of home.

RV's / CAMPERVANS / MOBILE HOMES - a fantastic way to get your accommodation and transport all in one. The worldwide popularity of these vehicles is no exception in New Zealand.
